Can you imagine?
Being shipped away.
We didn't know why.
All of our neighbors-
They turned overnight on us.
It wasn't normal anymore.
We were all refugees
Running and running,
like hunted animals.
But they didn't give up their war
Against the Jews.
We didn't believe them,
And then we saw...
Forced-labor camps,
Mass graves
Absolutely full of dead bodies.
Lots of hardships were still ahead.
Worthless, depressed, and worried;
like a prisoner.
Primitive striped clothes and shaved heads.
I couldn't take it anymore.
Afraid we'd never get out of here.
Working for 24 hours,
We had to move mountains.
Always I went to sleep exhausted.
But finally-
Liberation.
It's about time.
But is it really over?
The title of my poem is "Eternity" because for the survivors of the Holocaust being in concentration camps or trying to hide and escape from the Nazis felt like an eternity to them. I also chose this title because the events of the Holocaust didn't just affect them while it was happening, but it will affect them for the rest of their lives. I also tried to show how the victims of the Holocaust didn't even know what was going on or why it was happening.
